For many people with a hearing impairment, sign language is indispensable for the consumption of audiovisual media. As a competence center for access services of the SRG, SWISS TXT also produces sign language videos for the SRG as well as for public institutions and companies. With its in-house infrastructure, productions can be realized efficiently, promptly and cost-effectively:

  • Live sign language videos
  • Translation to/from sign language (non-live)
  • SILAS: Sign Language Service

21 September 2023 SWISS TXT presented its
SILAS service at a Bitforge event

On 7 September 2023, an event called "Making the digital world barrier-free – Talks & Networking @ Bitforge” was held in Zurich. SWISS TXT introduced its sign language service, SILAS, there.

The office for the rights of persons with disabilities of the canton of Basel-Stadt has asked people with disabilities to talk about their everyday difficulties in a video. The aim: making the video accessible for everyone. SWISS TXT has been assigned to this task.

A fully-automated translation and communication tool is being developed in the ‘Easier’ research project to enable deaf and hearing individuals to communicate and interact using sign language. We interviewed project manager Dr Giacomo Inches in a video on the technical setup.

10 September 2018 International Day of
Sign Languages

The last Sunday in September is dedicated to the approximately 70 million deaf people around the world. It has been declared the International Day of Sign Languages and is being celebrated for the first time this year. SWISS TXT also began producing sign language videos for the deaf in 2018, and is providing live speech-to-text interpreting to support the International Day of Sign Languages event being organised at the UN in Geneva by the SGB-FSS Swiss Association of the Deaf.
