SWISS TXT presented its
SILAS service at a Bitforge event

The digital world is changing all the time and the question as to how access to it can be made barrier-free is arising more and more. At the Bitforge event, the subject was addressed in three presentations from different perspectives. SWISS TXT was one of those taking part, and presented its sign language service, SILAS. SILAS is a tool that enables deaf people to contact businesses, public institutions and official bodies in their mother tongue – sign language – and raise their concerns in this way. They then receive the response also in sign language. The service makes Customer Services available barrier-free to the deaf for the first time.

Other presentations addressed the subject of accessibility for people who are blind or visually impaired:

• Alena Bachmann from MyPAR GmbH gave an introduction to the challenges and potential of barrier-free PDFs.
• Pascal Hostettler from Bitforge AG introduced the updated cooking app FOOBY, which has been optimised for use with screen readers.

The event closed with drinks and an opportunity to meet people, network and share ideas.
