RESEARCH AREA: DIGITAL MEDIA OPERATION
5G MEDIAHUB

The aim of the 5GMediaHUB research project is for the EU to become a leader in 5G media applications. Term of the project: 2021 to 2024.

Background

The data traffic of broadcasters for the IP streaming of audio and video content has mushroomed in recent years. UHD and HDR video streaming already requires very high bandwidths of over 40 Mbit/s these days. With future 5G technology, 8K video streams will place even greater, enormous demands on broadcasters.

Aim and implementation of the 5GMediaHUB platform

This research project is focused on the 5G-based distribution of media content for broadcasters.
A developer and validation system for “Testing as a Service” is being created.
NetApps and prototyping of innovative 5G services will play an important role.
SWISS TXT is involved in this project and tests the provision (CDN & streaming) of VOD and live content for mobile use up to 8K.
