World première at the KKL Lucerne

A world première took place at the KKL Lucerne on 15 and 16 June 2022. The film ‘Oh, to Believe in Another World’ was commissioned by the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra from the South African artist William Kentridge as an accompaniment to Shostakovich’s 10th Symphony. The audience in the hall was able to enjoy the film and the live concert performance at the same time.

Simultaneous live translations with surtitles

Numa Bischof Ullman (artistic director) and William Kentridge (director) introduced the concert. Interpreters translated what they said from English to German in real time so that the audience could read the German text on the big screen.

After the concert, an audience discussion was led by Numa Bischof Ullman (artistic director), William Kentridge (director) and Michael Sanderling (principal conductor). Once again, our LiveAccess platform went into action with interpreters translating to and from English and German.

On the second evening, everything said in German was translated live into English (by humans, not AI!) and vice versa. This meant that audience members could follow all the discussions, even if they understood only one of the languages.
